Thibaut Courtois: Real Madrid goalkeeper injured, set to undergo surgery

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois suffered a horrendous injury during a training session with his team.

According to reports, the Belgian is set to undergo surgery on his left knee and will be out for a couple of months.

During one of their final preseason practices, the Belgium goalkeeper was practising with his Real Madrid teammates when he horribly injured his left knee.

The former Chelsea goalkeeper was "in tears" as he was extended off the field, according to Cadena Cope.

Courtois to undergo surgery

The Belgian's injury was confirmed by Real Madrid this afternoon in a statement, which revealed he had torn his ACL.

According to Romano Fabrizio on Twitter, “Thibaut Courtois has broken his ACL. 🚨⚪️⚠️ #RealMadrid.

“After the tests carried out on our player Thibaut Courtois, he’s been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee. The player will undergo surgery in the coming days”.

Thibaut Courtois's injury was an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his left knee as a result of the tests that were performed on him.

The loss of Courtois could push Real manager Carlo Ancelotti to hunt for a quality replacement in the transfer market.

The injury to Thibaut Courtois comes as a big blow for the Spanish giants with the new season kicking off on Friday.

On Saturday night, Real Madrid will travel to Athletic Bilbao in the Basque region to begin their La Liga season.
