Ivan Juric was visibly upset as Atalanta suffered their first loss of the current Serie A campaign
Atalanta’s unbeaten streak came to a grinding halt as Udinese sealed a narrow 1-0 victory, and manager Ivan Juric did not mince words afterward.
Speaking after the match, the coach admitted it was the first time since taking charge that he was genuinely disappointed in his team’s overall display.
Juric delivers blunt verdict on Atalanta after flat display
A visibly frustrated Juric described the performance in Friuli as the worst under his leadership so far, outlining a lack of intensity, coherence, and fight from his men.
“For the first time, the performance was negative in every sense,” he said, stressing that neither the tactical execution nor individual effort was up to standard. “We didn’t have good play or the right intensity in the duels.”
Despite making five changes to keep the squad fresh in a busy run of seven games in 21 days, the coach insisted fatigue was not an excuse. He suggested the rotation strategy may need refinement, even hinting they could have changed more players in the prior fixture.
Juric also lamented the inconsistency of young talents, singling out Zalewski as a player who must learn that raw talent alone doesn’t win matches. The Croatian boss made it clear: improvement is needed, and quickly.
Okoye shines as Lookman’s benching proves costly
While Atalanta struggled, Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye produced a calm and confident performance for Udinese, securing a clean sheet.
The shot-stopper, back in form following a suspension tied to a betting investigation, looked assured all game, barely troubled yet fully alert when needed.
Udinese’s decisive moment came through a well-struck effort from Nicolo Zaniolo just before halftime, a blow Atalanta never recovered from.
Perhaps the biggest talking point, however, was Ademola Lookman’s surprising omission from the starting XI. Just days after netting a brilliant goal against AC Milan, the forward was left on the bench, and Atalanta’s attack lacked spark without him.
His absence was felt immediately, and questions will be raised about Juric’s decision in a match where little went right for La Dea.
