Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has reacted to the recent terrorist attack on Kwara State, quoting a Bible passage which calls for peace.

What happened 

Gunmen attacked a church in Eruku town, Kwara State, on the evening of November 18, 2025, firing on worshippers and leaving the area in chaos; Kwara police initially confirmed two people killed, with several others wounded and eyewitnesses reporting abductions, according to Sahara Reporters

The attack sparked widespread outrage online and among Nigerian public figures. Nottingham Forest and Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi, who was born in Ilorin, Kwara State, has joined his voice in publicly condemning the violence.

What Awoniyi said 

The former Hertha Berlin man took to social media and quoted Romans 12:18, which reads, "If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men."

He continued his statement, saying, “The state of Harmony is one of the most peaceful states, reflecting the peaceful coexistence among one another with different religions and beliefs.

“Peace shall reign. Kwara State stand for peace and that's what will stand for Nigeria.”

The outrage towards the dastardly act continues online. The Nigerian president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ordered the deployment of 900 additional troops to the area and postponed his travel to the G20 summit in South Africa.
