Despite some criticism over his international goal drought, the 24-year-old has been in impressive form at club level with Bayer Leverkusen, where he has won multiple individual awards and helped his team secure major victories.

Boniface’s rise has been meteoric, as he continues to develop under the guidance of coach Xabi Alonso.

While there is room for improvement, especially after his recent performances, Boniface remains recognised as one of Africa’s brightest attacking talents.

This latest interaction with fans reflects Boniface’s no-nonsense approach to criticism and comparisons, emphasising his focus on carving out his own legacy rather than being measured against past greats.

Meanwhile, he will be hoping to end his four-game drought in all competitions when Leverkusen welcome Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

Boniface, who will come face-to-face with compatriot Frank Onyeka, has managed just eight goals in 19 matches, 12 of them as a starter.
