In their last four matches of the season - and with Nottingham Forest close to a possible relegation - Awoniyi went on a scoring spree, netting goals against Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Chelsea and Southampton.

His tally saw him finish as the club's top scorer in the season, a goal more than Brennan Johnson who had finished as their top-scoring player when they got promoted to the Premier League in 2022.

Awoniyi shares testimony in church, appreciates God, Selman

On return to Nigeria, the Kwara-born striker paid a visit to the Eternity Network International (ENI), run by popular Nigerian televangelist Apostle Joshua Selman.

During on of the sessions at the ministry, Awoniyi took time to appreciate his maker and ENI's Apostle Selman for helping his football career.

''The day I was privileged to see Pastor Joshua Selman, he prayed for me and that was the turning point of my life," Awoniyi started during his testimony time.

"Every time I used to listen to Daddy's sermon and that has really helped. Before the season ended, I went for revival for two days in which I told my wife that I won't be at home and I am that we escaped relegation,'' he added.

The Nigerian striker is at the moment, spending his summer in Kwara, Nigeria.
