'I respect him profoundly'-Arteta rubbishes feud with Guardiola
Both managers have exchanged a never-ending war of words since their 2-2 draw last weekend.
Speaking in Sky Sport’s Premier League coverage, he was asked to name his favourite player, and he had a definite answer.
What Arteta said
While the former Everton manager came up through the ranks at La Masia, he never made it to the Barcelona first team and did not share the pitch with Lionel Messi, but he wasted no time naming the Argentine as his favourite player of all time.
He revealed that his admiration for Messi is a feeling he shares with his three sons, and he went further, naming the 38-year-old as the best player of all-time
“It's always been Messi. I cannot deny it,” Arteta shared. “For me and my three sons, it's exactly the same. Something that we've been really lucky to have the opportunity for that many years to experience, in my opinion, the best player of all-time. For me, it has to be [that Messi is the greatest of all-time].”
Meanwhile, Arteta is on his own mission for greatness. While he was nowhere near the likes of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who are regarded as the best players in history, he could go down as one of the greatest tactical minds.
On his journey on that path, he is currently in competition with Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola for the Premier League title, and the Spaniard recently laid down the gauntlet to Arsenal.
