La Masia graduate Oriol Romeu is back to LALIGA champions FC Barcelona and looks set to replace departed club legend Sergio Busquets.

Former Southampton and Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu is back home at LALIGA champions FC Barcelona.

Pulse Sports Nigeria can confirm that Romeu has rejoined the Catalans who confirmed the deal through their website.

Romeu will rejoin the club after almost two decades from fellow LALIGA side Girona.

“ Barcelona and Girona FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Oriol Romeu,” the club stated in a statement on their website

Romeu return home to replace Busquets

Following his return to the club, Romeu has put pen to paper on a three-year contract that will see hi stay at the Spotify Camp Nou until the summer of 2026.

Romeu’s new deal sees him return to the club for a second spell following his time at the famous Barcelona academy, La Masia.

As per the club, the midfielder joined the club as a youngster from Ulldecona in Catalonia moved through the categories to form part of the Barça Atlétic squad under then coach Luis Enrique.

He was with the team in the Second Division of Spanish Football before he made his first team debut in the 2010/11, playing twice that season under Pep Guardiola.

Romeu’s return to the club coincides with the departure of club legend Sergio Busquets who departed the club this summer after an illustrious career at Barcelona.

The defensive midfielder could be the man to replace Busquets, who has since been unveiled as a new player at Major League Soccer, MLS, side, Inter Milan as reported by Pulse Sports, at the base of the midfield heading into next season.
