Former Super Eagles star Taiye Taiwo has advised Flying Eagles to approach U-20 AFCON with confidence

Former Super Eagles player Taiye Taiwo has urged the current Flying Eagles squad to approach the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations with confidence and fearlessness.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Taiwo emphasised the importance of believing in oneself and playing with pride.

"Believe in yourself, whether you're a striker or a defender, trust your abilities. Don't be afraid. Go out there, play your best, and enjoy the game. Represent Nigeria with pride," Taiwo advised on Lasgidi FM via Punch.

The Flying Eagles are set to kick off their U-20 AFCON campaign against Tunisia next week, following a 2-1 friendly win over Egypt.

Taiwo, a key member of Nigeria's successful 2005 U-20 team, shared his insights on what it takes to succeed in the tournament.

"Don't stress too much. Just play the game you love and enjoy the experience. You've earned the right to be there, and now it's time to show what you can do," Taiwo said.

Recalling his own experience in the 2005 U-20 AFCON, Taiwo highlighted the importance of teamwork, discipline, and unity within the squad.

He said, "We were all very happy to represent Nigeria. We had a fantastic coach who gave us a lot of freedom, and that allowed us to bring out our best. We played for one another, and that was the most important thing."

Flying Eagles secured a 2-1 win over Egypt in a pre-Africa U20 Cup of Nations friendly match at the Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday.

The seven time African champions will begin their quest for eighth title on Thursday when they play Tunisia in group B.

They will later battle Morocco and Kenya in the same group.
