Manchester United are reportedly regretting their decision to allow Rashford join Barcelona on the agreed terms.
Manchester United are reportedly regretting their decision to include a buy option as low as €30 million in Marcus Rashford’s loan exit to Barcelona, as they believe the 28-year-old is worth much more.
The England international joined Barcelona last summer on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy. He left his boyhood club after falling out with his erstwhile manager, Ruben Amorim, and has since thrived in Catalonia.
Man United’s regret
Rashford's performance at Barcelona this season has sparked interest from multiple top European teams. According to The Mirror, the Red Devils believe they have shortchanged themselves by including a buy option in the deal, as they would have received bids significantly higher than €30 million.
The Carrington graduate has 23 direct goal contributions for Barcelona this season across all competitions (10 goals, 13 assists), a tally higher than most players in his position this season.
Given the inflated state of the transfer window and the figures the likes of Luis Diaz, Antoine Semenyo, and Eberechi Eze have gone for in recent transfer windows, €30 million for Rashford appears to be a bargain.
Still, Barcelona’s financial straits make an outright payment complicated; hence, they have reportedly floated the idea of paying a lesser fee, leveraging Rashford’s keenness to stay at the club. Other suitors would hope that opportunity cost leads Barcelona away from Rashford, as they have multiple problem positions and limited financial resources.
