Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has revealed that he does not want to see the Reds spend huge on Alexander Isak despite him being a good fit for them.

Isak has been on Liverpool's radar since the start of the transfer window and have made it clear that he wants to join Arne Slot's side.

The Reds have seen their first bid worth 110 million euros plus add-ons rejected by Newcastle as they value the player more than that.

Liverpool are now preparing another offer for Alexander Isak after their first attempt was rebuffed by Newcastle.

Carragher's advice to Liverpool

"Such a transfer would be perfect for Liverpool. However, I don't want them spending £150 million on Isak. He's surely their top target, but they've already signed Hugo Ekitike for £80 million, and he's definitely not a backup.

That's what seems strange to me," Carragher said on The Overlap, as quoted by Sky Sports, via Sportal.

"I think Isak started his protest against Newcastle when Liverpool and Arsenal brought in new strikers. Didn't he tell the club himself months ago that he wanted to be sold? The situation there is a bit odd.

"I also feel for Ekitike, who just arrived, and suddenly they're expecting Isak too," Carragher continued. "Yes, I want them to sign him, but personally, £150 million is Mbappé money. You have to be getting a player of his caliber when you're spending that kind of cash," he concluded.

Alexander Isak would be a perfect fit for Liverpool, but £150 million is Kylian Mbappé money, said former Reds captain and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.

He added that Liverpool could capitalise on the uncertain situation at Newcastle and snatch the Swedish international.

Isak missed the Magpies' Asian tour and trained individually at his former club Real Sociedad. However, he returned to Newcastle earlier this week.
