The Federal Road Safety Commission has published photos from Anthony Joshua's car crash and the reason behind the accident.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has released a statement which cited overspeeding and an illegal manoeuvre as the two major causes behind the ghastly motor accident which involved British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua.

They also released official photos of the incident, which showed an incredible degree of damage to the vehicle involved in the crash.

A police report confirmed that the 36-year-old was involved in a serious motor accident today, Monday, December 29, 2025, at about 11:00 am, in Makun, Ogun State. The incident occurred along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, just before Danco Filling Station, near the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound axis.

Anthony Joshua was invloved in an acciddent in Nigeria.

Joshua escaped with a minor injury, while two persons have been confirmed dead. A report from the FRSC has now provided more details on the crash and the number of individuals involved.

FRSC’s statement 

The commission shared pictures from the crash, which showed the collision point on Joshua’s Lexus, the extent of damage, and its remains. They also provided an official cause of the accident, blaming overspeeding and an illegal manoeuvre.

Two persons sadly lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt. Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and sustained minor injuries,' FRSC's statement reads.

The injured victim was evacuated for medical attention, while the remains of the deceased were conveyed to Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu. The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD) was duly notified for further investigation and necessary documentation.

Preliminary findings indicate that the Lexus Jeep, which was suspected to be travelling beyond the legally prescribed speed limit on the corridor, lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre and crashed into a stationary truck well packed by the side of the road.

The primary causes of the crash being excessive speed and wrongful overtaking constitute serious traffic violations and remain among the leading causes of fatal road crashes on Nigerian highways.To this end, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed on behalf of the entire Management and staff of the Federal Road Safety Corps extend heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured victim, Anthony Joshua a speedy recovery.
