In an interview with BBC Sport, Iheanacho recalled the doubts expressed by many regarding his ability to succeed at a top club like Manchester City.
“So many people told me that ‘you’re not going to make it, it’s a big team, so many big players, it’s not really good for you to go there,’” he said.
Despite the discouragement, Iheanacho and his family made the decision to join City, which he described as a “great journey.”
“Obviously, [i] made a decision as a family to go there. It was a great journey. So, thank God,” he added.
During his time at Manchester City, Iheanacho displayed his talent and became known for his goal-scoring ability and as a fox in the box.
He later transferred to Leicester City, where he achieved notable success, including winning the FA Cup in 2021. His performances at Leicester solidified his reputation as a prolific striker, earning him recognition and accolades.
In the summer, Iheanacho, 28, embarked on a new chapter in his career by signing with Sevilla FC following the expiration of his contract with the Foxes.
This move heralded an exciting opportunity for the Nigerian forward as he aims to enjoy better game time and make an impact in La Liga than he managed in his latter years at the King Power.
His transition to Sevilla comes after a season where he scored six goals and provided three assists in 26 matches for Leicester and helped the club secure promotion back to the Premier League.
While he has struggled to settle in at Sevilla, with three goals in 10 matches across competitions, Iheanacho's journey from being doubted to becoming a key player in European football should inspire many aspiring athletes.
