‘Osimhen is very strong’ - Atlético Madrid manager hails Super Eagles star following link to Spanish giants
The 27-year-old striker played the full 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw at RAMS Park, showing no signs of the injury that forced him to limp off during Nigeria's AFCON 2025 semi-final against Morocco.
Although he did not score, the former Napoli star was a constant threat to the Atlético defense, creating two significant chances during the match.
The game started quickly, with Diego Simeone's son, Giuliano Simeone, giving the visitors an early lead just four minutes before Galatasaray equalised in the 20th minute.
Simeone hails Osimhen
After the match, Simeone was quick to compliment Osimhen's physical prowess and overall impact on the game.
"Osimhen is very strong; he has always been like that in the air physically," the Argentine coach stated, as reported by Esto Es Atleti. "He is very fast and very important for his team, so he is a very good footballer."
Osimhen, who has been linked with a move to the Madrid club in the past, reciprocated the admiration for the two-time La Liga-winning manager.
"I love Diego Simeone, I've always been a fan of him," said the former Lille forward. "I've had the opportunity to meet him a few times.
“They play aggressively and have a clear identity. Since the coach has been there for many years, the players are completely accustomed to the kind of game he wants."
Looking ahead, Galatasaray is set to face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in their next fixture.
While Pep Guardiola's side has already secured a spot in the knockout stages, a victory for Galatasaray could be crucial for their own hopes of advancing to the Champions League round of 16.
