Ola Aina denied assist as Iwobi and Bassey help end Nottingham Forest unbeaten run
Alex Iwobi and Calvin Basey were once again sensational as they helped Fulham triumph over Taiwo Awoniyi’s Nottingham Forest, handing Nuno Espirito Santos’s side their first defeat of the season.
The Nigerian striker, Awoniyi, made a return to the starting line up for the Tricky Trees and although he had chances to score, he failed to impact the scoreline and help his team maintain their unbeaten run in the City Ground.
Key match actions
Fulham burst out of the blocks, with Adama Traore's pinpoint cross forcing Matz Sels into an awkward save. Nottingham Forest soon played themself into the game and began to generate chances.
Taiwo Awoniyi nearly marked his first Premier League start with a stunning goal, only to see his acrobatic attempt sail narrowly off-target.
Chris Wood thought he'd broken the deadlock, prodding home Ola Aina's cross, but was ruled marginally offside. Traore and Smith Rowe each saw their attempts blocked on the cusp of halftime, but Marco Silva’s side would not be denied for long.
Shortly after the restart, Andreas Pereira won a penalty, and Raul Jimenez confidently converted. The goal turned out to be the only one in the match, as Forest’s late flurry, inspired by Callum Hudson Odoi failed to bear fruit.
