The Nigerian forward contributed a goal and an assist in a dominant 3-0 win at Ibrox, starring against compatriot Rafiu Durosinmi.

Dessers cool under pressure for Rangers

With Rangers manager Russell Martin making bold changes after a poor league opener, Dessers was recalled to the starting lineup and quickly repaid that faith.

The Super Eagles striker set up the opening goal with a clever return pass to Djeidi Gassama, who slotted home calmly.

Just before half-time, Dessers calmly dispatched a penalty won by Oliver Antman, doubling Rangers’ lead in the crucial encounter.

His all-round display, marked by sharp link-up play and strong hold-up work, was a clear upgrade over underperforming striker Danilo.

Dessers now has two goals and two assists in his last three Champions League qualifiers, proving once again his importance as Rangers chase a return to the group stages.

Nigerian duel dominated by Rangers’ No. 9

The night also featured a fascinating subplot: Dessers going head-to-head with compatriot Rafiu Durosinmi.

While Durosinmi threatened early with a header that went just wide, he was largely kept quiet by a resolute Rangers defence led by stand-in captain John Souttar.

In contrast, Dessers was everywhere, connecting play, pressing high, and delivering in the final third. The contrast in impact between the two Nigerian forwards was stark.

With Rangers heading into the second leg with a three-goal cushion, Dessers’ contribution has placed his side firmly in control, and pushed his own stock even higher ahead of Nigeria’s next international window.
