The Flying Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Young Pharaohs of Egypt in a third place match at the CAF U-20 Africa of Nations (AFCON) on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
Nigeria came into the game after losing 0-1 to the Amajita of South Africa in the semifinal.
Egypt also suffered a similar fate losing to Morocco 0-1 in a North African derby.

In the third place game, it was Egypt that struck first as early as the third minute.
Omar Osama Hassan converted a ball from Hemida to give Egypt the lead as they went to the half time break with the lead.
Coach Aliyu Zubairu rang the changes at the break to give the Flying Eagles a lifeline.
It was one of the substitutes Bidemi Olalekan Amole that scored the equalizer in the 47th minute assisted by Divine Uchechukwu Oliseh.
The Flying Eagles had 30 shots but only one goal to show and with no extra time with the score tied after 90 minutes the game proceeded to a penalty shoot out.
Emmanuel Chukwu, Isaac Ayuma, Kparobo Nathaniel Arierhi and Tahir Maigana all converted from the spot for the Flying Eagles.
Goalkeeper Rufai Abubakar introduced at the end of the game made two saves for the Flying Eagles.
The result means the Flying Eagles earned the bronze medal along with a trip to the FIFA U-20 Men's World Cup later this year.
