Newcastle planning audacious move for Barcelona defender

Newcastle United have their sights set on Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen in what would represent a shock move. 

Barcelona are facing financial difficulties at the moment and due to being under FFP constraints, the Blaugrana could be susceptible to bids from clubs with cash to burn. 

Despite the club currently struggling to make the numbers add up on the positive side, Xavi is currently masterminding an excellent domestic season. 

They have made huge strides on the pitch and are now heavy favourites to win LaLiga in what has been a dominant season from start to finish for the Blaugrana.  

Newcastle are in the market for reinforcements and Spanish outlet Sport have reported that the Magpies are sniffing around Christensen.

Barca will try their hardest to hold on to him as they are still unable to spend large amounts on players in the transfer window whilst they remain under the auspices of Financial Fair Play. 

What that means is they must continue to scour the market for bargain signings on the cheap or as free agents. 

They have had real success going with that approach recently, as seen with the free signing of Andreas Christensen last summer. 

The Denmark international has been one of Barcelona’s most consistent performers throughout the 2022/23 campaign.
