A tough weekend for Nigeria’s Super Eagles stars abroad led by Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu, who were silenced, Lookman benched, and Maduka Okoye barely tested.

Nigerian stars abroad led by Super Eagles players Victor Osimhen, Paul Onuachu, and Ademola Lookman witnessed an unusually quiet weekend despite several battles of brothers across Europe.

Super Eagles main man Osimhen and his compatriot Onuachu kicked off the latest round of action for Naija Stars Abroad with a fierce derby and potential Super Lig title decider.

The Rams Park was the venue for what was tagged the ‘Super Eagles Showdown’ as Osimhen’s league leaders and defending champions Galatasaray hosted main challengers this season Trabzonspor and their star man, Onuachu.

However, despite the pre-game hype, both Nigerians failed to deliver goals as the game ended in a disappointing goalless affair. Osimhen remains four goals behind Onuachu, with both players catching up after the game.

Defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi featured for 86 minutes but could not help his Besiktas secure a point at home to giants Fenerbahce, who took advantage of the slip up in Istanbul to close the gap between them and the top two in the five-goal thriller.

In the Italian Serie A, it was another battle of brothers between Maduka Okoye and Africa’s finest Ademola Lookman. However, this time the home team, Udinese, won, with Okoye keeping a clean sheet against Atalanta, who unexpectedly started the game without Lookman.

It was a weekend to forget for Super Eagles number one Stanley Nwabali, who was powerless as Chippa United conceded three goals in the South African league.

The clash ended in a one-sided affair in favour of the trio, with Arokodare’s Wolves at the receiving end of a 3-0 thrashing. All the Super Eagles stars featured in the game, with Chukwueze and Arokodare getting some action as second half substitutes while Iwobi lasted for 89 minutes.

Taiwo Awoniyi got some minutes as Nottingham Forest came from a goal down to hold Manchester United to a 2-2 draw.

Victor Boniface remains without a goal for Werder Bremen.

Meanwhile, in Germany, things are not going smoothly for Victor Boniface, who remains without a goal for new club Werder Bremen after the latest blank for the club.

Akor Adam lost 3-0 with Sevilla at Atletico Madrid, while Gift Orban bagged an assist for Hellas Verona in the Serie A.

Moses Simon ended his two-month drought with a lovely winner for Paris FC in a narrow win against high-flying AS Monaco.
