Baller of the Week: Victor Osimhen dethrones Super Eagles teammate Lookman
Galatasaray's Victor Osimhen has replaced Super Eagles colleague Ademola Lookman as the Baller of the Week.
Kicking off the Naija Stars review for this week is reliable winger and difference-maker Moses Simon, who scored an incredible solo goal for Nantes in France.
Simon netted the winner after taking the law into his hands by dribbling past three players from 10-man Rennes before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.
A man of the match performance from the Super Eagle, who also completed the most dribbles (5) and created the most chances (4) and key passes (4). The 29-year-old has now scored four goals and assisted four in 13 matches this season for Nantes in Ligue 1.
In Italy, Ademola Lookman continued his strong form for Atalanta, scoring a late winner and earning another Man of the Match award. The CAF Player of the Year is unstoppable at the moment, with eight goals and four assists in 12 games in the Serie A.
Victor Osimhen helped Galatasaray extend their lead over Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce after he converted a lovely penalty in the thrilling 3-2 win against Sivasspor.
Osimhen, on loan from Napoli till the end of the season, has now scored and assisted 10 goals in just nine matches for Gala in the Super Lig.
In the Premier League, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey impressed for Fulham in their 1-1 draw with Arsenal. However, Leicester City suffered a blow with Wilfred Ndidi picking up an injury in their 4-goal thriller against Brighton.
At Old Trafford, Ola Aina and Nottingham Forest made history as they defeated Manchester United away for the first time in 30 years. Of course, Aina was in superb form and completed the most dribbles (3) in addition to his defensive duty.
Cyriel Dessers provided an assist for Rangers in their 3-0 win against County in Scotland, with compatriot Leon Balogun rolling back the years with a fantastic defensive display.
Bayer Leverkusen made it five wins in a row in all competitions with Nigeria’s Nathan Tella impressing in a rare striker role. The versatile star was, however, denied a goal by the VAR.
In the women's game, Ifeoma Onumonu, who made history by becoming the first Nigerian to score against the French national team, in the Super Falcons' 2-1 defeat to Les Bleues, has done it again.
Onumonu will not stop scoring after netting for the sixth consecutive match for club and country. The talented striker scored her club’s second of the day in a heavy 4-2 defeat to Dijon. Ifeoma’s sixth goal of the season was also her sixth goal in the last five matches.
Ifeoma’s national teammate, Risola Babjide netted another goal for her club, Tenerife making it two in a row against Atletico Madrid.
Overall, it was a strong showing from the Nigerian players abroad, with several standout individual performances across Europe.
