Mikel Obi reveals real reasons Spain inspired by 2 stars who abandoned their African countries deserved Euro 2024 win

Nigerian football legend Mikel Obi has shared his thoughts on Spain's victory in the recently concluded Euro 2024.

Speaking on his podcast, the former Chelsea midfielder offered a detailed analysis of La Roja's performance and the key factors behind their success.

Mikel was unequivocal in his assessment of Spain's triumph. "Well deserved, the best team definitely," he stated, emphasising that there could be no argument against Spain's superiority throughout the tournament.

Managed by Luis de la Fuente, who made history in Germany, Spain were heads and shoulders above everyone in the competition.

The Nigerian star highlighted Spain's perfect performance, noting, "They were fantastic throughout the tournaments, they won all seven games."

This flawless record underscored Spain's dominance from the group stage to the final.

La Roja sealed the historic win after a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Gareth Southgate’s England in the final.

Mikel praised Spain's unity and attractive football: "From the word go to the end of the tournament, They were on it - played the best football, and you could feel that the way they played, they were together."

This comment underlines the importance of team chemistry in Spain's success.

Several players caught Mikel's attention, starting with Manchester City star Rodri Hernandez, who he described as "the best player... in the world now in my opinion."

He also had glowing words for PSG’s Fabian Ruiz, who a credited with having "an amazing tournament."

Summing up Spain's strengths, Mikel said, "I think they were a complete team and very well deserved."

He noted their solid defence and midfield prowess as key components of their success.

Interestingly, Mikel, known for his stance on players of African heritage respecting their roots, specifically mentioned Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams.

Both players have African heritage and played significant roles in Spain's victory but the Super Eagles skipper reserved praise for the duo regardless.

“Of course, we have to talk about the 16-year-old who turned 17 in the tournament, absolutely fantastic, also Williams,” he added.
