France captain Kylian Mbappe continued his remarkable run of returns for the national team, putting behind all the talk of a summer transfer and a Paris Saint-Germain exit to hit another milestone with Les Bleus.
Mbappe helps France past Greece
Mbappe scored the only goal in France’s 1-0 UEFA European Championship qualifier victory over Greece to help his side continue their now-four-game winning streak that sees them top of qualifying Group B.
Mbappe struck from the penalty spot after winning a spot kick for France early in the second half, and his goal, which was his fourth in four qualification games, helped France to a crucial victory in front of their own fans.
Mbappe has now scored in three Euros qualifying games for France, including a brace against the Netherlands, and another strike against Gibraltar in France’s last match before facing Greece.
Mbappe reaches new France milestone
Mbappe’s red-hot form has unsurprisingly seen him climb the hierarchy of France’s all-time top scorers after scoring a ridiculous 13 goals in the last 365 days for the national team.
Mbappe’s latest strike for France against Greece saw the 24-year-old hit 40 international goals in what is still a very young career.
To show just how rare it is for a player to hit that number this young, Mbappe is the first French player to hit 40 goals before their 30th birthday, doing so six years before any other Les Blues frontman.
His goalscoring feat now sees him fifth on France’s all time scorer’s lits, one goal behind legendary midfielder Michel Platini and only three behind teammate Antoine Griezmann.
