The South African side skipped training on Tuesday just a day before they face Yanga in a CAF Confederation Cup semi-final match.

Marumo Gallants have suffered a blow ahead of Wednesday's CAF Confederation Cup semi-final rematch against Young Africans (Yanga) of Tanzania amid reports the team is on strike.

The South African side lost the first leg 2-0 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania last Wednesday and needed to score three answered goals to progress to the final of Africa's secondary club football competition.

Marumo are guaranteed R8.25 million (equivalent to Ksh61 million), and they could pocket twice the amount if they progress to the final and win the Cup.

The Tanzanians arrived in Rustenburg on Monday, but Marumo refused to train on Tuesday morning, citing unpaid allowances.

"The players opted to strike and refused to train in the early afternoon on Tuesday, less than 48 hours ahead of their second leg at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Wednesday," a South African publication IDiski reported.

"A source confirmed the strike saying the players were infuriated by bonuses of just R1,000 offered in case they could overturn the first-leg defeat."

Separately, a source informed another South African publication FarPost that players have vowed not to attend any training session ahead of the match as they continue to demand their unpaid dues.

"The players are not going to play until he [Marumo boss Abram Sello] signs the agreement," said the source.

"PSL, SAFA, and CAF must interfere because Sello is playing with their money. He's always telling them about his expenses, but he's the one who put himself there.

"He promised to give the players money for qualifying for group stages, and he hasn't delivered on his promise till today."

Marumo is home to Kenyan midfielder Sven Yidah who has featured sparingly in the South Africa Premier Soccer League and continental matches since joining the side in August 2022.
