Bendel Insurance scored more than two goals in a game for the first time in over 30 matches against Sporting Lagos.

Relegation-threatened club Sporting Lagos suffered another setback in their quest to stay in the NPFL following a crushing defeat against Bendel Insurance.

Sporting were humiliated 3-1 by the Benin Arsenal on Saturday in a devastating result for the newly promoted Tech Boys in the NPFL.

In a one-sided affair, the home side, Bendel Insurance, who are also the current FA Cup holders, proved just too good and strong for their visitors from Lagos State.

The Benin Arsenal enjoyed a rare goal-fest as they netted three goals at home for the first time since they defeated Remo Stars by the same margin on January 28, 2023.

Insurance kicked off the impressive win with two first-half goals from Junior Osaghae and Chukwudi Meze before Divine Nwachukwu, the Super Eagles midfielder, added a third in the second half to wrap things up.

Henry Ndedi pulled a goal back for Sporting Lagos in added time to give the final result a more respectable look as the visitors continue to struggle in the NPFL.

What the result means

Following the win, Bendel Insurance, who registered three goals at home for the first time in over 30 matches, extended their unbeaten run in Benin to 22 matches across competitions.

The win also means that the Benin Arsenal moved two places from seventh to fifth on the table with 30 points, just one off continental places.
