Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is set to name a new captain at the club whether Harry Maguire stays or not with Bruno Fernandes most likely to get the armband.

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is reportedly set to name captain with Harry Maguire to be officially stripped of the armband.

Maguire lost his place in the team following the arrival of Ten Hag last summer but kept his position as club captain.

However, according to a report from the Sun, England International will officially be stripped of that title as Ten Hag continues to reshape United to his taste.

Maguire to lose armband to Fernandes

With Maguire losing his place in the team last season, Fernandes was the club skipper for the most part of Ten Hag’s season.

Bruno Fernandes is a key player for Manchester United and captained the club for most of last season.

However, ahead of the new season, the Portuguese looks set to get the armband as the permanent captain with Maguire to be axed.

The 30-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, and even Luke Shaw all preferred at centre-back to him by Ten Hag.

Maguire is reportedly one of the players transfer-listed to leave the Red Devils this summer and taking the armband from him will see Ten Hag continue his clean-up of that club that has seen goalkeeper David De Gea end his 12-year romance with the club.

The former Hull City star joined United for a world-record fee of £80 million from Leicester City in the summer of 2019.
