Guardiola's men took the lead through Erling Haaland in the first half, but two goals from a James Milner penalty and a Brajan Gruda right-footed shot at the death condemned them to a surprise loss.

Brighton vs Manchester City as it happened

Manchester City’s struggles at the start of the Premier League season continued as they fell 2-1 to Brighton at the Amex Stadium, extending their winless run against Fabian Hürzeler’s side.

Erling Haaland, making his 100th PL appearance, was in the thick of the action early, missing a one-on-one before being denied twice more by Bart Verbruggen’s sharp reflexes.

The Norwegian eventually broke through on the half-hour mark, pouncing on a loose ball to fire City into the lead for his 88th Premier League goal.

Brighton, however, showed resilience and refused to wilt under City’s pressure. Kaoru Mitoma squandered a golden chance in the first half, but Albion regrouped after the break and found a way back.

Their persistence paid off as they overturned the deficit when Milner became the oldest person to score a penalty in Premier League history to equalise before snatching victory late on thanks to Gruda, sending the home crowd into raptures.

For Pep Guardiola’s men, it was another frustrating afternoon where dominance in spells wasn’t enough to secure points, leaving questions about their sharpness in front of goal and their ability to kill off games, meanwhile, Brighton celebrated their first league win of the season.
