Local coaches will solve Nigeria football problems - Former Super Eagles manager
Former Super Eagles assistant coach, Sylvanus Okpala, has called for a homegrown solution to the challenges facing Nigerian football.
Okpala in an interview with PUNCH, criticised the NFF's pursuit of foreign coaches, arguing that the country possesses the necessary coaching talent domestically.

"Nigeria are going to Mount Kilimanjaro looking for a coach. They are going to Mount Everest looking for the coach, but the coaches that will solve Nigerian football problem for now are under their feet here in Nigeria," he stated.
Okpala emphasised the importance of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, warning of dire consequences for Nigerian football if the team fails to secure a spot at the biggest footballing event.
He also criticised the public feud between Victor Osimhen and former coach Finidi, highlighting the importance of maintaining a professional relationship between players and coaches.
The former player also offered advice to future coaches, emphasising the importance of individual player meetings to build trust and understanding.
NFF looks to hire Herve Renard as Super Eagles coach
Meanwhile, Pulse Sports reported that the NFF remains committed to hiring a foreign coach, with Herve Renard being the leading candidate.
The experienced French coach has reportedly demanded a monthly salary of $125,000 from the NFF and this has raised concerns from stakeholders.
The Super Eagles, who are without a coach will play against the Benin Republic in the AFCON Qualifiers at the Nest of Champions in Uyo next month.
