Liverpool continued their quest for FA Cup glory with a commanding 3-0 victory over a hapless Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield on Saturday night.
Liverpool enjoyed a sweet Valentine's Day at Anfield, defeating Brighton 3-0 to advance to the fifth round of the FA Cup.
The deadlock was broken in the 42nd minute through Curtis Jones. After a period of sustained pressure, Milos Kerkez, who was a constant menace on the left flank, delivered a pinpoint cross into the box.
Jones showed great improvisation, meeting the ball with his knee to guide it past Jason Steele and give the Reds a deserved halftime lead.
Brighton emerged with intent in the second half and nearly found an equalizer when Alisson Becker produced a stunning fingertip save to deny Lewis Dunk. However, the Seagulls' hopes were extinguished in the 56th minute by a goal of the season contender from Dominik Szoboszlai.
A swift counter-attack saw Cody Gakpo find Mohamed Salah, who cushioned a perfect first-time pass into the path of Szoboszlai. The Hungarian didn't hesitate, unleashing a "screamer" into the top corner from the edge of the box
.The rout was completed in the 68th minute by Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian king won a penalty himself after being brought down by Pascal Gross following a dazzling run into the area. Salah stepped up and made no mistake, rifling the spot-kick into the top right corner to make it 3-0.
