Wirtz set to become the second highest earner in Liverpool

German football prodigy Florian Wirtz is set for a staggering weekly wage if his almost certain transfer to Liverpool goes through, according to the Daily Mail, citing German tabloid Bild.

Reports suggest the German international will sign a five-year contract worth an impressive £355,000 a week – approximately £1.42 million a month, with performance-based incentives.

This substantial salary would make him Liverpool's second-highest earner, surpassing Virgil van Dijk's estimated £350,000 weekly wage but still trailing Mohamed Salah's £400,000.

The Merseyside club is expected to break the Premier League transfer record to secure the talented midfielder, with Bayer Leverkusen valuing him at £126 million (nearly €150 million).

Liverpool has reportedly offered £100 million plus £13 million in add-ons, but the German club is holding out for a fee exceeding the £115 million Chelsea paid Brighton for Moises Caicedo.

The attacking midfielder has made it clear that Liverpool is his preferred destination, and the transfer is considered all but done.

The two clubs are expected to reach an agreement soon, with Leverkusen likely to receive between €140 million and €150 million including potential bonuses.

Although Liverpool will have to dig deep for Wirtz, he has previously stated that money isn't his primary motivation.

"I'm not even interested in how much money I have in my account or what I could earn in the future," he told Sports Illustrated Germany earlier this year.

"Of course, you have to make sure you have a good contract. But for me, the sporting perspective is much more important than money. I think my parents would be angry if I was too fixated on money. After moving to Leverkusen at 16, my parents managed my wages and sent me €150 (£126) a month. That shaped me. It was important to my parents that I didn't do anything stupid with my salary,” he added.

The German star is edging closer to a move to Anfield, convinced by manager Jürgen Klopp's clear vision for his role in the Liverpool system – as a number 10. While Bayern Munich and Manchester City also showed interest in Wirtz, he has opted for Liverpool.
