Liverpool are said to have reached an agreement with Eredivisie side Feyenoord over a compensation fee for their manager, Arne Slot, whom they have earmarked to replace Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool have reached an agreement with Feyenoord over a compensation deal worth up to £9.4 million to secure Arne Slot as their next manager.

Deal Finalised

Arne Slot is now set to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, with the compensation deal with Feyenoord worth £9.4 million finally agreed upon. Klopp had announced in January that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season.

The Reds have agreed to pay Feyenoord £7.7 million (9 million euros), with a possible £1.7 million (2 million euros) in add-ons included in the deal. Following this agreement, Liverpool will proceed to negotiate a contract with the 45-year-old Dutchman before making his appointment official.

Slot's Achievements and Style

Arne Slot led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in the 2022-23 season, and this season, he guided the team to win the Dutch Cup and are set to finish second in the league. It is believed that Slot's attacking style of play, his personality, and his ability to develop players were key factors in Liverpool's decision to choose him as their next manager.

Speaking about Slot's appointment, Klopp expressed his admiration for the Dutchman's approach to the game. "I like the way his team plays football. All the things I hear about him as a guy say he’s a good guy," Klopp said. "I like that a lot - good guy, good coach and looking forward for the club if he is the solution. I’m more than happy, it sounds all really good."

If appointed, Slot would be taking on the role of managing one of the most prestigious clubs in world football. Klopp further added, “Best job in the world, best club in the world. Now it looks like [Slot is] helped by [Liverpool] not finishing on a high so there’s space for improvement."

Slot's Background

Arne Slot, a former midfielder, spent his entire playing career in the Netherlands. He began his coaching career as a youth coach at PEC Zwolle before moving to SC Cambuur as an assistant manager. Slot joined AZ Alkmaar in 2017 and became the manager two years later.

Despite being sacked in December 2020 due to negotiations with Feyenoord, Slot expressed his desire to join Liverpool, stating, "It seems clear to me that I would like to work there."
