Liverpool manager Arne Slot has said that his team's chances of defending the Premier League title are slim.

In his debut season, Arne Slot led Liverpool to their 20th Premier League title. The Merseyside club finished the season with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.

After the match, former captain Alan Hansen presented the trophy to current captain Virgil van Dijk, kicking off the celebrations.

Slot speaks on defending EPL

Slot has acknowledged the challenge of defending the title next year but vowed to give it their all.

"Another special day. Obviously, with a little less pressure than four weeks ago when we had to win the game to clinch the title. We knew we were getting it today.

"The energy in the stadium, how loud the fans were, the way the game finished in the last half-hour, going down to 10 men, and then the incredible reaction from the players and the fans to get, I think, a deserved equaliser – we deserved to draw.

"These players and these fans hate to lose, they don't want to lose, and we showed that again today," said Slot.

The Liverpool manager also commented on the crowd's reaction to Trent Alexander-Arnold's farewell speech.

"I think the words 'brilliant' and our fans go hand in hand. How brilliant they were before the Tottenham game, during the Tottenham game, and after it – I don't think you see many special celebrations like the one we had four weeks ago. I don't think you see many like we had today.

"It's absolutely no surprise to me that they were brilliant again today, as they were the whole season, as they were with Trent. But maybe it helps the absolutely insane half he played. The passes he played, if you make a compilation, it will probably take you three, four or five minutes. The ball to Darwin Núñez was on another level, it was next level," continued the Dutchman.

He then discussed his expectations for next season, "Hopefully the appetite will be big but we will see that when we start pre-season and when we start again. Some of the players have shown already that they can win it multiple times, I am talking about the ones who won the league and the Champions League here before.

"These are also the players who keep performing at a high level year after year, even if they don't win it. We have also players who won the league for the first time, they have to show they have the same mentality as the ones who won it here before.

"I am looking forward to being part of that. We know it will be difficult again. It was already very difficult this season. It will probably be as difficult or even more difficult next year because the club we competed with this season always invests a lot of money in every transfer window and will probably do so as well in the summer," added Klopp.
