Florian Wirtz is set to become the second Bayer Leverkusen player to sign for Liverpool this season, could Victor Boniface be the third?
Liverpool have agreed a sensational £126.9 million deal with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Florian Wirtz, breaking the British transfer record.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder becomes the second signing of the summer for the Premier League champions after Jeremie Frimpong.
Wirtz chooses Liverpool over Europe's elite
Bayer Leverkusen had been bracing for Wirtz’s departure all summer, but they were determined to extract maximum value for their prized asset. Liverpool's initial offer of £113 million, split between a £100 million base fee and £13 million in add-ons, was swiftly rejected.

However, negotiations continued, and the Reds eventually agreed to a £126.9 million package that met Leverkusen’s asking price.
Wirtz reportedly turned down interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City, having been swayed by Arne Slot’s clear vision for his role as a No.10 at Anfield.
Liverpool Sporting Director Richard Hughes helped finalise the deal with performance-based bonuses, including Champions League qualification clauses.
Liverpool move in for second Bayer Leverkusen star
If all add-ons are triggered, Wirtz will surpass Moises Caicedo’s £115 million move to Chelsea as the most expensive signing in British football history.
)
When the deal is completed, Wirtz will become the second player from Bayer Leverkusen to join Liverpool, after Jeremie Frimpong already helped the Reds replace the outgoing Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Wirtz’s move to Merseyside isn’t just good news for Liverpool, it’s also a potential windfall for his former club, Koln.
)
The midfielder spent nearly a decade at Koln’s academy before moving to Leverkusen at 17, which means the club is eligible for five per cent of the transfer fee under FIFA’s training compensation rules. That could amount to over £6 million.
