Ligue 1 reject PSG request, to postpone Ligue 1 opener against Luís Castro's Nantes

European Champions PSG have sought a postponement of their opening match of the season against Nantes.

The Professional Football League (LFP) has rejected PSG's request to postpone their Ligue 1 opener against Nantes on August 17th.

PSG had hoped for more rest after the Club World Cup, arguing they would be exhausted for the first match of the season. However, the LFP has not granted their request.

PSG's request denied

The LFP dismissed PSG's request, citing the already packed schedule for the upcoming season as the reason for not rescheduling the Nantes game, as reported by Abola.

However, PSG are expected to push the issue again if they reach the final week of the Club World Cup, hoping to reach an agreement with the French football governing body.

Just four days before their Ligue 1 opener, the Parisian side, featuring Nuno Mendes, Vitinha, João Neves, and Gonçalo Ramos, will face Tottenham in the UEFA Super Cup final.

This match will not be rescheduled unless there's a last-minute surprise. This means that, if successful in the Club World Cup, the players would have only a month off before competing for the first title of the new season.

In the best-case scenario, PSG's season could end on July 13th, the date of the Club World Cup final. As reigning UEFA Champions League winners and favourites for the title, they would have little time to recover before beginning their Ligue 1 title defence against Luís Castro's Nantes.
