Real Madrid goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea has stated that he wants to continue at Los Blancos past his one-year loan.

The Chelsea goalkeeper on loan at Real Madrid Kepa Arrizabalaga is on the tongues of many after his controversial speech that suggested he did not want to return to the West London club.

The 28-year-old Basque shot-stopper joined the Blues from Athletic Club in the summer of 2018 for a world record fee. However, he has failed to justify his hefty price tag and significant wages.

In a summer of clearouts at Stamford Bridge, the two-time Champions League winners have gotten Kepa off the books, or at least temporarily, following his move to Real Madrid.

Real Madrid sign Kepa

Real Madrid were hit with the devastating news of an Anterior cruciate ligament injury to their first-choice goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, days before the start of the season.

Los Merengues immediately entered the transfer market for a replacement, and they found an ideal situation in Kepa, whom Chelsea were willing to let go on a loan without an obligation to buy.

Real Madrid unveiled the Spanish international today, and his comments during his showcase sparked reactions.

What Kepa said

Although still contracted to Chelsea, the former Athletic Club man suggested he did not want to return to the club, as he said he hoped he performed well enough for his loan to be made into a permanent deal.

“I hope that with my performances, Real Madrid will decide to keep me after the loan,” Kepa said in his presentation, per transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Some Chelsea fans have taken his statement as disrespectful, while others think it is good riddance. Rival fans, however, have taken to mocking Chelsea for the keeper’s utterances.
