Fulham failed to hold their ground against Brighton as they lost at the American Express Stadium in the Premier League.

The Cottagers came into the clash off the back of eliminating Manchester United in the FA Cup round of 16 last weekend.

However, they failed to build on their win and fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Brighton, leaving them ninth on the table.

As it happened

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler made two changes from the 2-1 Premier League win over Bournemouth.

On the other hand, Fulham manager made five changes to the starting lineup from the 2-1 win against Wolves last time out in the league. Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey retain their spots.

Brighton started the game as the better side but conceded the first goal after Iwobi delivered a brilliant cross to Raul Jimenez for the opener.

However, the host equalised shortly after a powerful header from Jan Paul van Hecke to restore parity.

In the second half, Brighton left it late to steal the win after Joao Pedro converted from the penalty spot in injury time.

The game ended 2-1 in favour of Brighton, with Fulham disappointed not to take a draw in their chase for European football.
