Liverpool boss Arne Slot spoke about Alexander Arnold's emotional moment during the trophy celebrations.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot reacted to Trent Alexander-Arnold bursting into tears during their trophy celebrations, saying that the 26-year-old’s decision to leave his boyhood club was emotionally daunting.

Arnold cries on coronation day

The Reds failed to claim victory in the final game of the season against Crystal Palace, drawing 1-1, but it did not cause them to celebrate with any less passion, as they were handed the Premier League trophy today.

Trent did not start the game, as Slot had already said, but he brought him on in the second half. Unlike the jeers he received in previous matches after his exit was announced, Anfield cheered for him when he came on today and when his name was called out by the announcer.

The defender broke down in tears during the trophy celebration, and he had the following to say: “From the bottom of my heart, I hope that one day the fans, supporters will recognise what I did for the team.”

“There was never a minute I didn’t think about the team; since I was six years old, it’s always about Liverpool. To get the reception I got means a lot for me… I never felt so loved! From the bottom of my heart, I hope the fans recognise the 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 I did over the years.”

What Arnold said

Speaking after the game, Slot acknowledged the heightened emotional circumstances of the situation.

"He's leaving such a great club and he knows, he feels that. He has been at this club for 20 years; he knows everyone here—teammates, staff members,” he said, per the BBC

“It is normal that even only being in a club for a few years, you're going to miss it, let alone 20 years and let alone Liverpool. The fans showed a great reaction towards him, but the quality he showed today again is why it is such a pity he is going to leave."

On introducing Trent at halftime after he previously said he would not start him as a gift to incoming Real Madrid coach, Xabi Alonso.

"It was always the plan to give him some playing time. This was a good moment for him to come on and impact the game. Conor has been great the last few weeks, but he [Trent] deserved to be on the pitch for all he has done for me, for his teammates, for the fans. He deserved to be on the pitch one last time at Anfield."
