Josko Gvardiol wards off suitors, says Leipzig are uninterested in selling.

Croatia and Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol has more or less ruled out a move in the summer, saying the club are not interested in selling him, and suggesting he is unwilling to force their hands.

The 23-year-old is one of the most coveted defenders in the world, and in the back of an outstanding World Cup campaign with Croatia, a move was expected for him in the summer, but Gvardiol has played it down.

What Gvardiol said

Gvardiol was speaking in a press conference ahead of Croatia's Euro 2024 clash against Turkey tomorrow, where he was asked questions about his future.

The centre-back who reached a third-place position with Croatia reviewed how the World Cup has changed his life, and increased the attention he is getting, saying he wished he was not that popular.

"My life hasn't changed after the WC, I'm still the same me,” Gvardiol said, per net.hr.

“I hope to keep focus on what I'm doing and be the best possible version of myself. Unfortunately, I can't avoid the attention I'm getting, I have to be careful what I say. Sometimes I wish there was less attention, but I have to live with it."

Gvardiol went on to send a message that would disappoint his many suitors, communicating that Leipzig had no interest in selling him, hence there was no point in holding discussions on his future at the moment.

The defender said he is focused on finishing the season strongly with Leipzig, saying he hopes to finish the campaign in the best possible way.

"The club is not interested in selling me this summer, so there is no point in talking about anything else. The most important thing is to end this season in Leipzig in the best possible way."

Liverpool interested in Gvardiol

As we reported in detail here Liverpool have allegedly registered interest in Gvardiol, and are looking to bring him in to partner Virgil Van Dijk.

They are expected to face opposition from Northern rivals Manchester City, and even Real Madrid.
