"In July [2026], you can hold me accountable. Hey Ancelotti, help us."

The forward's comments highlight his determination to feature under Brazil's head coach, Carlo Ancelotti.

Persistent and severe injuries have so far prevented Neymar from playing for the Italian manager, who has publicly stated he will not select the player until he is fully fit and match-ready.

Neymar's immediate focus in 2025 was to help his club, Santos, avoid relegation, a mission he was instrumental in despite his injury struggles. Now, his sights are firmly set on international success.

The 33-year-old's fitness remains the biggest question mark hanging over his World Cup aspirations. He is scheduled for surgery on his left knee to repair a meniscus injury sustained at the end of the Brasileirão season. Reports also suggest he will consult a specialist, dubbed a 'miracle doctor,' to accelerate his recovery.

Ancelotti has been clear that he will prioritize a squad of fully prepared players capable of inspiring the Seleção to victory. For Neymar, avoiding further injuries will be crucial if he hopes to earn a spot on the plane to the tournament.

Meanwhile, his contract with Santos is set to expire at the end of 2025. However, the club's board remains optimistic about extending his deal for at least another six months, potentially keeping him in Brazil in the lead-up to the World Cup.
