Argentine superstar Lionel Messi confirms his move to Inter Miami.

Lionel Messi has confirmed that he will not be returning to Barcelona and will sign for MLS side Inter Miami.

The Argentine's contract with PSG expires at the end of the month, and with his relationship with the club fractured, he was set for a move elsewhere.

He was of interest to his former club Barcelona, who were keen on landing him, as well as Saudi side Al Hilal.

As Pulse Sports reported earlier, he has reached an agreement in principle with the American team; the player has now come out to confirm it.

What Messi said

The 35-year-old was speaking in an interview with Sport and was quoted by Barca Buzz as confirming his decision to join Inter Miami rather than wait for Barcelona or move to Saudi Arabia.

He explained that the Catalan club was his preferred destination, but he wanted a different date than 2021 when he was promised a contract by the club. Still, their financial situation prevented them from offering him a contract.

Barcelona's financial problems remain, and with the fulfilling feeling of winning the World Cup, he explained that he thought it best to move to Miami.

"I'm not returning to Barça, I'm going to Inter Miami,” Messi confirmed.

“I was very excited to be able to return, but after having experienced what I experienced and the exit I had, I did not want to be in the same situation again."

"Waiting to see what was going to happen and leaving my future in the hands of others. I heard that Barça had to sell players or lower players' salaries, and the truth is that I didn't want to go through that.

“It was an exceptional year with the World Cup in the middle of it which changed a lot of things. If the Barcelona thing didn't work out, I wanted to leave Europe, get out of the spotlight and think more of my family. Obviously, I miss Barcelona."

Meanwhile, Karim Benzema has officially joined Al Ittihad on a free transfer after leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season.
