‘He’s a far better goalkeeper than Onana’ - Man United legend urges Red Devils to sign Emiliano Martinez

Following Aston Villa's 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in their final home game at Villa Park last weekend, goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez tearfully waved goodbye to the fans. 

The emotional display by the Argentinian player has led to significant speculation regarding his future with the club.

The goalkeeper is reportedly a transfer target for Barcelona and clubs in Saudi Arabia, but he has yet to make a decision.

Yorke suggests that Ruben Amorim should sign Martinez, considering him a significant improvement over Andre Onana.

Speaking to gamblingindustrynews.com, he said, "It’s kind of a no-brainer. Emi Martinez has been really exceptional for a number of years and again you could see why huge clubs would want him. 

“I mean Man United, I know they're struggling, but even now you’d have to consider it because they’re such a huge club. He wouldn’t just be bringing experience, but he’s a far better goalkeeper than Andre Onana, just going by the numbers. 

“I think for Onana, it hasn’t quite worked out, and everyone anticipated that he would have done well. But definitely, signing Martinez would be a huge coup for United."

Manchester United have already started making moves in the transfer market, with Matheus Cunha set to be their first summer signing.

Despite a challenging 2024-25 season, the Red Devils are determined to finish strong by defeating Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final in Bilbao on Wednesday. 

Their focus remains on securing this title to end their campaign on a positive note and build for the next season.
