He will be here till AFCON — NFF president shows full support for Eric Chelle despite WCQ uncertainty
NFF president Ibrahim Gusau has shown Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle public support, insisting that the French-Malian will lead Nigeria into the AFCON, as stipulated in his contract.
Calls to fire Chelle
The Super Eagles were rife with uncertainty around World Cup qualification before eventually clinching a place in the playoffs.

The struggles in the qualifiers, in addition to the CHAN Eagles’ shambolic showing at the African Championship, impaired the perception of Chelle and his capabilities.
There were also criticisms targeted at his formation of choice, all of which led to calls for his sack. Gusau has now come out to offer a vote of confidence.
What Gusau said
In a video captured by Soccernet, Gusau expressed his excitement that Nigeria made it to the playoffs. He reassured his confidence in Chelle and promised to support the Super Eagles in their endeavours.
“He has a two-year contract with us, so nobody should think he is only here to assist for the World Cup. His deal covers the World Cup qualifying matches as well as the AFCON,” he said.
“We have crossed the first hurdle, and now we move into the play-offs in November. After that, we go for the Nations Cup and see how things progress.
“A lot of Nigerians doubted why we appointed him, but thank God, he has shown his capability to manage the national team. Our responsibility now is to give him all the support he needs to perform his duties and deliver the results the country expects.”
