Al Nassr are not ready to let Ronaldo go amid reported concerns over lack of silverware.

Al Nassr are scrambling to retain the services of Cristiano Ronaldo, who, despite a historic season in front of goal, is reportedly considering his options after a trophyless year in Saudi Arabia.

With his contract set to expire on June 30, the club’s sporting director, Fernando Hierro, revealed in a Thursday press conference that negotiations are underway to extend the 40-year-old’s deal.

“Cristiano’s contract with Al Nassr runs until the end of June,” Hierro stated as per ESPN.

“We are negotiating to renew it. God willing, we will find a solution.”

The former Spain international praised Ronaldo’s monumental influence on the Saudi game, calling him a catalyst for the league's transformation.

“Cristiano has opened up football in this country to the world,” Hierro added.

“It’s phenomenal that he had the courage to come here, stay here, and open all the doors.”

Despite a personal best 35 goals in a single Saudi Pro League season – a new record – Ronaldo’s second campaign ended without domestic silverware.

Al Nassr finished third in the league standings and fell short of qualifying for the 2025 AFC Champions League.

The only accolade in his Saudi stint remains the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup.

Tempting offers and growing frustration

Sources close to the player indicate that Ronaldo is growing frustrated with the lack of major honours, particularly given his monumental impact and status as the world’s highest-paid athlete, a title recently reaffirmed by Forbes

Reports also suggest a lucrative offer from a Brazilian club, which may offer Ronaldo a fresh challenge and a route back to the global stage via the Club World Cup.

Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in December 2022 following his high-profile departure from Manchester United, and has since scored an astonishing 99 goals in 105 matches.

But with only one minor trophy to show for it, there’s a growing sense that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner may seek a new frontier.

Ronaldo is set to join up with Portugal next week for the UEFA Nations League finals.
