Liverpool announce that Mohamed Salah will not leave the club at the end of the season.

Liverpool have announced that star forward Mohamed Salah will stay at the club beyond the expiration of his current contract at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old has been in negotiations with the club's hierarchy for well over a year now, and when the talks hit a snag, he came out to announce that he is playing his last season at the club. This morning, the Reds dropped a bombshell via their social media platforms, declaring that the Egyptian was more in than out.

The details

In a statement released via the club's website, the Reds revealed that Salah, who had already spent eight years at the club, will extend his association, as he has put pen to paper for a new deal.

Fabrizio Romano reported the good news days ago that the talks were going smoothly between both parties and today, Liverpool officially announced a renewal.

While the Reds did not reveal the length of the new deal, the Athletic reported that Salah signed a two-year extension, which will keep him at the club until 2027.

Given his public pressure on the club to hand him a renewal, it was evident that Salah desired a continuation of his Liverpool story despite the big-money interest from Saudi Arabia.

Hence, upon signing across the dotted line, he expressed elation. “It’s great, I had my best years here,” he told the club’s website. “I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10.  Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.

“I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”

Salah is undoubtedly the best player in the Premier League this season. He leads the division in goals (27), and assists (17), fueling Liverpool's charge to their second Premier League title.
