Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has praised young Brazilian talent Estevão Willian with a note of caution.
What Maresca said
Maresca commended the 18-year-old’s versatility and flair but urged supporters to allow him time to adjust.
He said, "He can play anywhere, he is so good… We are going to try to help him, no rush, no pressure. He needs time, he needs to adapt... arrive here, find a house, bring the family, be happy, and slowly, slowly, he is going to help us, for sure.
Also, the Italian coach highlighted the transformative impact of new signing João Pedro, emphasising his important ability to unlock stubborn defences in tight spaces.
Speaking on Men in Blazers, Maresca praised Pedro’s composure and quality in the final third, especially against low-block setups, an area where Chelsea often struggled last season.
“Pedro has quality. In the last third, he has lots of quality that we lack a little bit... We need that quality in the small spaces, and João gives us that.”
The Brazilian forward joined from Brighton and has hit the ground running with five goals in five appearances across all competitions. His presence, according to Maresca, has elevated the Blues’ standing.
“I think one year ago we were very far from the ones that dominate English football, but I think now we are quite close.”
Estevão has made a dazzling start, scoring on his debut and winning a penalty in a friendly, but Maresca insists his development must be handled with care and patience.
