He is not concentrating - Redknapp blames Garnacho in Chelsea draw against Brentford
Former Premier League midfielder and pundit Jamie Redknapp has criticised Alejandro Garnacho for failing to mark Fábio Carvalho at the back post during Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Brentford.
Redknapp says Garnacho “watched the ball” instead of tracking Carvalho, allowing the latter to score.
What Redknapp said
Speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp was particular about the defensive responsibilities of attackers when defending set-pieces or crosses.
“Garnacho has got to mark Carvalho. That is your job, it is as simple as that. Don’t lose him… If he gets in behind you there, it’s on you,” he said.
He claimed that when the cross came in from Schade, Garnacho wasn’t sufficiently alert
Chelsea had been aiming to secure victory, but defensive errors like this contributed to Brentford salvaging a draw.
Such moments are putting pressure on Chelsea’s defensive cohesion, especially when attackers are also expected to contribute defensively.
