Hansi Flick addresses Gundogan's future amid interest from Mourinho's Fenerbache
Barcelona's manager, Hansi Flick, gave a crucial update on the future of Ilkay Gundogan amid links to Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce.
Gundogan linked with an exit
As Pulse Sports reported, Barcelona are open to selling Ilkay Gundogan, given his advanced age and wages. However, they are satisfied with his performances and will not force him out of the club.
Reports from Spain in recent days claim the German is amiable to the approach and has informed Barcelona that he would like to leave.
What Flick said
Gundogan did not make the team that beat Valencia in the LALIGA opener at the Mestalla, which seemed to lend credence to the rumours of his desired exit.
Flick addressed Gundogan's omission, explaining that the former Manchester City captain had some problems, was dizzy, and hence was dropped.
On the matter of his future, Flick’s response suggested there was some truth to the rumours. However, he did say he had a feeling Gundogan would remain at the club.
"As you know, he has had some problems and felt a bit dizzy,” Flick said. “We agreed that he would stay at home and I have spoken to him to see how he felt, but what we said to each other remains between us. I have the feeling that he will stay."
Meanwhile, Flick has provided some insight into how he plans on deploying youngster Lamine Yamal this campaign.
