The 33-year-old sustained a suspected groin problem during the Champions League draw against Inter Milan on Wednesday.

While De Bruyne missed City's Premier League match against Arsenal on Sunday, Guardiola has indicated that the Belgian's absence would be for a brief period.

"I don't think it will be long. I cannot say how long for, I don't know for Newcastle but it won't be long. (He has) discomfort in his legs," Guardiola told Reuters.

De Bruyne's return will be a big boost for City as they continue their Premier League campaign. The midfielder has been a key player for the team, contributing goals and assists.

His absence last season due to a hamstring injury was keenly felt, but his comeback against Newcastle in January demonstrated his importance to the team.

The 28-year-old is one of the most important players in the Cityzen’s ranks, as they did not suffer a single defeat in the league last season in any game the Spanish international featured.

City currently sits atop the Premier League standings with 13 points from five games.
