Police huffed and puffed but could not find a way to break down Ken Kenyatta's charges.

Kenya Police's hopes of closing the gap on league leaders Gor Mahia were made even fainter, as they struggled to find the scoresheet in a 0-0 draw played at the Nyayo Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Police’s first real chance came in the 16th minute when right-back Baraka Badi got to the byline and cut it back. Talanta keeper Kevin Otieno attempted to handle it, but it ricocheted off him onto the path of Clifton Miheso, but his shot sailed wide off the mark.

The Law Enforcers continued to have the lion’s share of possession but struggled to be decisive when the ball got to the Talanta final third.

In the 34th minute, Duke Abuya and Baraka Badi combined well down the left flank, before Badi launched another dangerous floated ball from the byline which found Elvis Rupia, but the golden boot contender sailed it wide.

Talanta could have nearly scored a worldie when an Ian Omondi freekick from deep should have been an easy catch for Police custodian Job Ochieng’, but he instead parried it behind for a corner.

Talanta had another rare chance yet again just before the break when right winger Herman Ngalo ran at pace past Abud Omar down the right flank, before attempting a shot from the byline which failed to find the target.

Talanta started well in the second half and quickly won a free kick in a dangerous area in the 47th minute. Peter Njammah took the resulting freekick, but Police easily dealt away with the threat.

A well-constructed move by Police four minutes later involving Abuya, Rupia, and Miheso failed to find the target, but Police generally struggled to find their grove. It would not be before Talanta’s attempted shot by Waiterere went off target after they caught out Police on the turnover of possession.

Police first came close to scoring in the second stanza through Francis Kahata in the 69th minute when he got on the end of an Elvis Rupia cross, but his attempt went just wide.

They would get another chance through Abuya just five minutes later from a freekick, but Otieno easily caught the ball that landed straight onto his palms.

Abuya, who looked likeliest to score, had yet another attempt on target after a brief period where both sides were fairly even, but he just could not beat Otieno’s net.

After withstanding more pressure, Talanta had an opportunity to smash and grab a win on the counter-attack when Brian Yakhama ran with the ball down the right flank before setting up Kisailah, but his indecisiveness allowed Police to get back into shape and clear the ball to safety as the game ended in a barren draw.

The result now means Talanta remain 15th on 28 points, While Kenya Police are fifth on 50 points.
