Former Liverpool player Naby Keita can't catch a break from injuries despite swapping Anfield for Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga.

Former Liverpool star Naby Keita has picked up another injury just four weeks after he left the English Premier League.

Keita joined Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen on a free transfer after his contract with Liverpool expired this summer.

But the Guinean international has suffered a setback at his new club following a new injury in a friendly.

Keita suffers setback

According to a report from Daily Mail, the 32-year-old was ready to feature for Bremen in a pre-season game but was forced to pull out due to an injury.

He injured his abductor muscle following a knock during the warmup ahead of the game against Oldenburg.

The German club confirmed the news through an official statement on their social media account and wished their Guinean star a speedy recovery.

“Naby Keïta suffered an adductor muscle injury whilst warming up for the game against VfB Oldenburg and will be out of action for several weeks,” the club said in a tweet. “Wishing you a speedy recovery, Nab.”

The news comes as a blow to both Keita and his new club as both parties were hoping to see the talented player make a strong comeback this season.

“ 'I think having only one game a week will help me,” Keita told the club last week. “The workload isn't as high here as in England. Hopefully, I can play to my best every week and help us be successful.”

Keita’s injury history: A brief

Keita’s injury won’t come as a surprise to fans of his former club where he struggled to be available for selection following his 48 million pound move from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2018.

His struggle to maintain consistent playing time due to recurrent injuries saw him play just 129 games in five years for the Reds.

Keita's previous season was also marred by injuries, limiting his contributions to the team's success.

But despite the setbacks, he won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and Club World Cup with Liverpool before he parted ways with the club last season.
