Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has shed more light on Erling Haaland's new bumper contract.
Pulse Sports announced on Friday that Manchester City goal-machine Erling Haaland has committed to a nine-and-a-half-year deal, tying him to the Premier League champions until he turns 33.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola opened up on the striker's big new contract, which is reportedly around £600,000 per week.
When asked about the length of the contract, Guardiola explained:
"The club decided it. Erling wouldn't have signed it if he didn't imagine being here in 10 years. Both the club and Erling decided it."
)
Guardiola was also questioned about whether the long-term deal was intended to protect Haaland's value. He responded:
"What happens in this kind of situation, he feels it.
“He feels that for him it is the right move for his career and of course he is a special player. The club made a huge effort to have him and he decided on it."
Haaland has been sensational since joining the English champions from Borussia Dortmund and despite a disappointing season collectively, the 24-year-old has managed 21 goals in 27 appearances.
