Enzo Maresca Style of Play

Enzo Maresca's coaching at Leicester and early days at Chelsea have shown a willingness to control possession and play attacking football. His teams often seek to build attacks from the back and maintain a high defensive line while employing a high press out of possession to regain the ball swiftly after losing it.

Maresca's attacking intent favours wingers who maintain width, intending to isolate them with the other team’s full-backs in one-on-one situations.

Enzo Maresca Formation

While Enzo Maresca typically favours a 4-3-3 formation, he also utilises a 4-2-3-1 from time to time.

However, the Italian manager’s teams characteristically morph into a 3-2-5 shape in possession, with one full-back forming a back three and the opposite wide defender inverting along with a defensive midfielder.

This, in turn, frees up a front five, including two wingers to maintain width, two advanced midfielders in the half-spaces and a central striker.
